Isla de la Plata - Silver Island
Isla de la Plata, a small island off the coast, is one of the hidden treasures of Ecuador. It's known as "The poor man's Galapagos" because you can enjoy most of the exotic species of animals that you'll find in the Galapagos - blue footed booby nesting grounds, pelicans, petrels, frigatebirds, terns, albatrosses and giant mantarays. During whale season with a birds eye view from on top of the island, you can see the whales all around. Check out these gentle giants which are a delight to dive with. Mantas can reach a width of up to 7 meters (23') and can weigh up to 4500 lbs. |
Machalilla National Park
Machalilla National Park is located north of Salinas. We all understand that a lot of the truly unique places in the world are rapidly disappearing. However, this park is one of those that is being preserved. Enjoy nature with over 200 different species of birds and other animals. Visit the famous beach "Los Frailes", which is 3 beautiful beaches joined together. This is one of the best places in the country where you will find nature in it's natural beauty. Nearby is Aqua Blanca which is an indigenous communal village that offers a museum with artifacts dating back to 3500 B.C. It also has a sulfur lagoon offering some relaxing mud packs that are known for rejuvenating your body. |
